Note: This simulation was originally made in July 6th, 2021.
In the first Hunger Games Simulation I made on brantsteele.net, the protagonists were many of the enemies that have appeared in games related to the Super Mario Bros. videogame franchise; most of them appear in the majority of the games, while others only appeared in some games in particular. As seen in the image above, the districts, which in this entry will be referred to as Worlds, which is the term used for groups of levels in many Mario games, are organized in the following way:
World 1 = Goomba and Koopa Troopa
World 2 = Dry Bones and Boo
World 3 = Piranha Plant and Blooper
World 4 = Bob-Omb and Whomp
World 5 = Magikoopa and Shy Guy
World 6 = Lakitu and Pokey
World 7 = Octopus (which apparently is named Ota Rock, according to the Super Mario Wiki) and Octoguy (both of them from Super Mario Galaxy)
World 8 = Gold Ghost (from Luigi's Mansion) and Bomb Boo (from Super Mario Galaxy)
World 9 = A Boo from Luigi's Mansion (Peekaboo, to be more precise) and a Pink Boo from Super Mario Sunshine (better known as Boo Block)
World 10 = Topman (from Super Mario Galaxy) and Monty Mole
World 11 = Monty and Undergrunt (both of them from Super Mario Galaxy)
World 12 = Shroob (from Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time) and X-Naut (from Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door)
Before moving on to the narration of this simulation, choose which of the 12 Worlds is your favorite. As for me, I think Piranha Plant is a pretty cool character, especially considering it somehow got to be a playable character in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, and I remember playing a couple of times as Blooper once I got to unlock it in Mario Party 8 many years ago, back when I had a Nintendo Wii. Therefore, World 3, I choose you!!
Now, let's begin.
As the tributes stand on their podiums, the horn sounds. The following events happen during the course of the bloodbath:
- Ota Rock clutches a first-aid kit (probably the same way Goombas can somehow wield baseball bats despite having no arms...) and runs away.
- Koopa Troopa grabs a backpack, not realizing it is empty.
- Boo, Lakitu and Shy Guy run away from the Cornucopia (in the cases of Boo and Lakitu, they float away instead of running).
- Undergrunt gathers as much food as he can before digging a hole and fleeing.
- Dry Bones and Boo Block run away from the Cornucopia (the thought of a Boo from Super Mario Sunshine actually managing to float away unscathed from all the chaos despite its slow-motion movement is actually kinda funny).
- Goomba and Bob-omb fight for a bag. Bob-omb, to avoid lighting the fuse on his head, gives up and retreats.
- Piranha Plant and Blooper from World 3, along with Bomb Boo and Magikoopa, share everything they gathered before running.
- Monty Mole runs away from the Cornucopia.
- Whomp and X-Naut fight for a bag. Whomp gives up and retreats (Considering Whomps from Mario Party games can be found blocking some pathways unless the players give him a certain amount of coins, it can be assumed that the X-Naut probably gave him some coins and that's why he let the latter keep the bag).
- Peekaboo and Octoguy fight for a bag. Octoguy gives up and retreats.
- Pokey throws a knife into Topman's chest (or maybe the former just stabbed the latter with one of his spikes).
- Monty, Gold Ghost and Shroob run away from the Cornucopia.
Day 1:
- Boo tries to sleep through the entire day.
- Gold Ghost's trap kills Lakitu (Probably the Lakitu was just wandering around the arena until the Gold Ghost jumpscared him, causing him to fall from his cloud from a great height and perish).
- Bob-Omb fishes (another character that went to the Goomba school of grabbing things without having arms).
- Magikoopa attempts to attack Peekaboo with a magic blast, but he manages to escape.
- Shroob tends to Blooper's wounds.
- Pokey discovers a river.
- Monty, Koopa Troopa and Ota Rock hunt for other tributes.
- Piranha Plant discovers a cave.
- Octoguy runs away from Whomp to prevent being squashed.
- Undergrunt scares Monty Mole off.
- Boo Block chases Bomb Boo (Bomb Boos can be considered a little bit faster than Boo Blocks, who are pretty slow, so it shouldn't be surprising that the Bomb Boo eventually gets out of Boo Block's sight).
- X-Naut and Shy Guy try to sleep through the entire day.
- Goomba makes a wooden spear somehow.
- Dry Bones searches for a water source (even though it's undead and therefore shouldn't need to drink water at all).
2 cannon shots can be heard in the distance, in honor of Topman (World 10) and Lakitu (World 6).
Night 1:
- Pokey defeats Undergrunt in a fight, but spares his life.
- Monty receives an explosive from an unknown sponsor (probably Major Burrows, the leader of the Montys and Undergrunts).
- Octoguy treats to treat her infection.
- Peekaboo is awoken by nightmares.
- Ota Rock, Whomp, Goomba and Shy Guy sleep in shifts.
- Shroob destroys Magikoopa's supplies while she is asleep.
- Gold Ghost receives fresh food from an unknown sponsor (probably his creator, the Portrait Ghost known as Vincent Van Gore).
- Piranha Plant and Blooper from World 3, along with Monty Mole, somehow manage to communicate with each other in order to discuss the games and what might happen in the morning.
- Boo Block questions her sanity.
- Boo and Dry Bones from World 2 run into each other and decide to truce for the night.
- Bob-omb tends to his wounds.
- Koopa Troopa tracks down Bomb Boo and retreats into his shell in order to attack the latter, making him explode.
- X-Naut goes to sleep.
Day 2:
- Dry Bones and X-Naut split up to search for resources.
- Whomp scares Shroob off.
- Blooper diverts Magikoopa's attention and runs away.
- Peekaboo tends to Undergrunt's wounds.
- Monty searches for a water source.
- Goomba is unable to convince Shy Guy to not stomp on him.
- Boo Block somehow makes a slingshot.
- Piranha Plant receives water from an unknown sponsor.
- Bob-omb scares Gold Ghost off.
- Ota Rock constructs a shack somehow.
- Octoguy forces Boo to get rid of either Monty Mole or Pokey. She (Boo) decides to kill Pokey.
- Koopa Troopa travels to higher ground.
3 cannon shots can be heard in the distance, in honor of Bomb Boo (World 8), Goomba (World 1) and Pokey (World 6). So World 6 is down for the count, ladies and gentlemen.
Night 2:
- X-Naut sees a fire, but stays hidden.
- Whomp loses sight of where he is.
- Dry Bones unknowingly eats toxic berries. Dry Bones is undead so the berries don't affect him; however, another berry falls on top of him, causing him to fall apart and be unable to regenerate during the rest of the simulation.
- Koopa Troopa defeats Undergrunt in a fight, but spares his life.
- Bob-omb and Piranha Plant talk about the tributes still alive.
- Boo thinks about winning.
- Octoguy sets up camp for the night.
- Shroob receives medical supplies from an unknown sponsor.
- Ota Rock shoots Monty Mole with a fireball as the latter tries to run (therefore causing the fire that X-Naut witnesses).
- Shy Guy looks at the night sky.
- Blooper tracks down and sprays Peekaboo with ink until the latter vanishes for good.
- Magikoopa fends Boo Block, Monty and Gold Ghost away from her fire.
Day 3:
- Gold Ghost stalks Koopa Troopa.
- Piranha Plant, Monty and Boo Block start fighting, but Monty runs away as Piranha Plant kills Boo Block.
- Magikoopa stabs Shroob while the latter's back is turned.
- Undergrunt sprains his ankle while running away from Ota Rock.
- Bob-omb receives clean water from an unknown sponsor.
- Octoguy steals from Shy Guy while he isn't looking.
- Whomp attempts to squash Blooper, but she manages to escape.
- Boo sees smoke (most likely from the fire caused by Magikoopa mentioned in Night 2, which was quelled somehow by the clean water Bob-omb received) rising in the distance, but decides not to investigate.
- X-Naut searches for firewood.
All of a sudden, the arena is filled with Fuzzies (floating, spore-like creatures that only appear in Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island and its Game Boy Advance remake) and, as a result, the remaining tributes begin to hallucinate; causing the following events to unfold:
- Piranha Plant mistakes Whomp for a bear riding atop a Beach Ball (the aforementioned bear is a type of enemy found in Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins) and ground-pounds him to death.
- X-Naut tries to eat a Mandibug (from Super Mario Galaxy), seeing it as a delicate dessert, with fatal results.
- Boo mistakes Blooper for a bear riding atop a Beach Ball and scares her to death (Piranha Plant better be the last one standing).
- Magikoopa and Octoguy decide to jump down the rabbit hole to Wonderland, which turns out to be a pit of boulders.
- Gold Ghost hugs a Beehoss (an enemy found in Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story, with the ability to summon bees from its honeycomb), believing it to be a pillow.
- The rest of the characters not previously mentioned (Ota Rock, Shy Guy, Undergrunt, Koopa Troopa, Monty and Bob-omb) manage to survive.
11 cannon shots can be heard in the distance, in honor of Dry Bones (World 2), Monty Mole (World 10), Peekaboo and Boo Block (both of them from World 9), Shroob (World 12), Whomp (World 4), X-Naut (World 12), Blooper (World 3), Magikoopa (World 5), Octoguy (World 7) and Gold Ghost (World 8).
Night 3:
- Boo sees a fire, but stays hidden.
- Bob-omb quietly hums, or rather, makes its iconic sound effect.
- Koopa Troopa cries himself to sleep.
- Monty receives medical supplies from an unknown sponsor.
- Ota Rock starts a fire (probably the same fire that Boo saw).
- Piranha Plant goes to sleep (you can choose whether or not to pause your reading and listen to the Piranha Plant sleeping music from Super Mario 64 on YouTube for a while).
- Shy Guy receives fresh food from an unknown sponsor.
- Undergrunt sets up camp for the night.
Next morning, the cornucopia is replenished with food, supplies, weapons, and memoirs from the tributes' families, thus the following events occur during The Feast:
- Monty and Ota Rock get into a fight over raw meat, but Monty gives up and runs away.
- Boo decides not to go to The Feast.
- Undergrunt tries to dig a hole, but ends up falling into a bottomless pit.
- Bob-omb destroys Koopa Troopa's memoirs out of spite.
- Piranha Plant kills Shy Guy with a sickle.
Day 4:
- Piranha Plant is hunted down and killed by the rest of the remaining tributes (Bob-omb, Koopa Troopa, Monty, Ota Rock and Boo; by the way, there goes World 3's chance at victory, darn it).
3 cannon shots can be heard in the distance, in honor of Undergrunt (World 11), Shy Guy (World 5) and Piranha Plant (World 3).
Night 4:
- Ota Rock, Monty, Koopa Troopa and Bob-omb sleep in shifts; elsewhere, Boo accidentally steps on a landmine.
Day 5:
- Ota Rock picks flowers.
- Koopa Troopa overhears Bob-omb and Monty talking in the distance.
1 cannon shot can be heard in the distance, in honor of Boo (World 2).
Night 5:
- Bob-omb tries to sing himself to sleep.
- Koopa Troopa tends to Ota Rock's wounds.
- Monty sees a fire (it seems that both the fire caused by Ota Rock's fireball that killed Monty Mole way back in Night 2, and the fire started in Night 3, also caused by Ota Rock, remained unattended and evolved into a forest fire engulfing the section of the arena Monty's currently in), but stays hidden.
Day 6:
- Monty injures himself while trespassing through the burning area.
- Ota Rock convinces Koopa Troopa to not kill him, only to shoot him with coconuts instead.
- Bob-omb receives clean water from an unknown sponsor.
1 cannon shot can be heard in the distance, in honor of Koopa Troopa (World 1).
Night 6:
- Ota Rock receives a hatchet from an unknown sponsor; elsewhere, Monty shoots an arrow into Bob-omb's head, causing the latter to eventually explode and send Monty to an unknown destination.
Day 7:
- Monty wakes up, only to find himself in a frozen lake with lots of cracks in the ice around him, not helping matters is the hatchet (carelessly dropped by Ota Rock during his search for supplies) located in a corner of the lake, which seems to have caused the cracks in the first place; eventually, the ice below him breaks, causing him to fall and drown.
2 cannon shots can be heard in the distance, in honor of Bob-omb (World 4) and Monty (World 11).
Thus, the winner is... Ota Rock, from World 7!!

As a sort of follow-up from this simulation, the tributes from the next one will consist of kings and leaders from the previously mentioned enemy factions, as well as other high-ranking minions from the Koopa Kingdom, including Bowser himself.
